BUG IN 34

Hello All,

Well this last Sunday was Bug-In 34, which was held at the California Super Speedway in Fontana CA. The show is the largest VW show in California and hosts some amazing participants. I was fortunate enough to take 2nd place with my 72 SuperBeetle in the 68 and up class. It was an amazing moment as I was driving out of the function, and heard my name being called out on the loud speaker! I stopped my car and ran to the podium. it was great. OVERHAUL!!!!!!!

It's that time. After a year of blessed work...... I am now finally updating the blog and the primary site. New additions will be added over the next week.

The Duuuuuuurty Dingy

Arrrrrrggghhh..... Tis the Duuurty Dingy. I finally got around to rendering turns and comping the Occlusion and Color passes together. The mast will only be visible when needed for story telling purposes. Otherwise it will be gone to provide a larger acting area. The boat will be just big enough for my two characters. I am rigging it to beable to deform like a hand-drawn cartoon. Lots of squash and stretch ....... exaggerated posing. Tell me what yous alls think! I am still finishing up Clumbert... If all goes as planned I should beable to post his model by Tuesday.

The "Duuuuurty Dingy" and "Clumbert"

Hello All,

Well i figured I should post some sketches of the next two models that I will be posting. The "Dirty Dingy", is the ship that Cecil and his brother Reg attempt to conquer the high seas in. Clumbert is a pesky seagull that always seems to prevail through every situation. I will be posting the model for the Durty Dingy tomorrow, and Clumbert on Saturday. As with the characters the modeling and design process has been back and forth. Once I am happy with a model, I seem to start drawing and create something a little different that appeals to me more. The durty dingy was finished a week ago... until i started drawing yesterday. Oh well, it is a fun process and makes for a better end product.

The New Improved Cecil

here is the new and improved Cecil. I have been hard at work on my series of shorts. Redesigning the main character meant, re-rigging, re-texturing and so on. About 75% of the props and sets are built, and 11 scripts have been wriiten. I promise to post more often. A Quicktime of a model turn for Cecil is available on my website.

Cecil in 3D

Hello all,

Here is a preview of Cecil's 3D model. I am still modeling the hair, and the shoes. I have everything for the short just about 75% modeled. I have been spending alot of time developing premises for the series. So far I am up to about eleven different 30-45 sec shorts. My goal is to publish these as cell phone content, an online cartoon series, as well as interstitials that I am going to pitch to Nickelodeon. Enjoy, and please comment.

Arrrrrrrgh... tis color time

Arrrgh Mateys..... I have been pushing forward on my new series of shorts every day now. Above you can see some of the color keys and character concepts that I have been working on. I have also been creating the cast in Maya but I don't think I will post any pics of the modeled characters until they are all done. I find myself continuing to revise my previously completed models as the style of the short develops. I am really feeling the color key on the top right... any thoughts? Myself and three other talented co-workers meet every thursday for lunch to discuss and crit all of our projects. It has been really helpful and I feel that the story of my first has been developing into something great. The idea I have is to create a series of 30-45 sec animated shorts. I feel that by mastering that time frame will strengthen my story telling skills. Next post will hopefully have some more color concepts and maybe all the finished models. enjoy

"Cecil The Sailor"

Hello All,

Here is some of the concept work for my next short. This character's name is Cecil and he is currently being modeled by I. I chosen to go with the concept circled in red, I have actually pushed the design much more while modeling it to give it a very unique look. Shots of the model will be posted as it is nearing completion. It is hard to find time to work on my own projects now, but I feel it is a must. I am excited to announce that I will be leading a great group of 3D artists beginning in February on the pilot for the DreamWorks property, "Madagascar Penguins". It will be a very busy time that will have to be split between "Tak" and "Penguins". I know that it will turn out great! Until next time.......

Hello Taiwan...GoodBye India

Well, my trip is nearing the end. I flew out of India at about 7am and arrived in Tawain at about 4pm. India was certainly different and made me really appreciate everything I have back in the states. I wish that I would have posted more, but time we had was limited there. I will tell travel stories over the next few weeks. Out of a group of 7 only 3 of us servived the entire 17 day trip. I will never forget India for it's Viper Lip, Grey, and Bull Moose Goats. I'll explain more later. Taiwan looks awesome. Everything here is really clean and makes me feel a step closer to home. Till next time.... Riddle me this!

India Part Duex

Hello and greetings to all from India!! Well the trip has had it's ups and downs so far. We all went sight seeing on Sunday which was amazing. Words could never describe what we saw. I got very ill on monday and had to take my kill all bacteria pill which worked quite nicely, and the rest of the week thus far has been filled with work. The picture above was taken from the "Nizzim Fish Arches". Fish are considered to be good luck and fortune in the country, and Nizzim was the last ruler of hydrabad before India gained it's independance in 1947. More to come!

Wow....... this place is crazy. I will be in India for two weeks..... i have only been here two days..............wow.

Thanksgiving

Well the time to stuff our faces is almost here. I have been eating healthy and exercising daily for months in preparation for this week. There are many things to be thankful for..... such as the Democrats taking taking over Washington and Gris Grimly's freakin awesome movie that i got to see last week. Being a HUGE horror movie fan I can be quite harsh when reviewing new horror movies, Gris's movie didn't let me down. It wasn't the scariest movie in the world, but it was obvious that this was not the attempt of the director. Visually it was stunning and i totally dug the choppy editing. Overall i was very pleased........... So pleased that i bought an original piece at the showing. This is my second original of Gris's that I have collected over the last years. It is an awesome Ink wash of of a ghoul. The picture of the ghoul was used as the label for some liquor in the short film.
Lots more to say... very little time. I have some new sketches that will be posted soon. turkey

Where did the time go?

Well life has been a little crazy.....as usuall. I have been working on my "Frankenstein" series, but not nearly as much as i would like. I visited Cal State Fullerton recently to review some student reels and to inform them about the Apprenticeship program at Nickelodeon. I think it went really well.
The studio has been a little crazy lately as we begin animation. I am also preparing to go to India later this month to work with two of the studios that are helping us with the production. I am looking forward to the trip, but I am relizing more and more how much work we will actually be doing out there. I will have a couple days though to explore my surroundings and get a feel for the culture.
I am really excited about tomorrow night! I will be attending the release party and showing of, "Cannibal Flesh Riot", it is Gris Grimley's new live action short. I have been a huge fan of Gris's for about 5 years now. I think the event might be sold out, but there will be a second viewing thursday as well. Tickets can be bought through his website at www.madcreator.com. Well, enough rambling for now.

Halloween Challenge

Well, I am not sure how many people will actually go along with the challenge since this blog is new and unknown.......but here it goes. Since it is so close to Halloween the new theme will be "Frankenstein". So add your comments and post your images of your work as it progresses. The challenge will end November 3rd. It Works....

Now that everything is up and running i will be posting lots of useless info on this page. I will start by posting an illustration concept tonight that I have been working on. Off the subject, you know what really sucks?..... bad service at Cuban restaurants. Today at lunch i had the joy of seeing my server once to take the order, and once to drop it off. He must have been a family member of the owner. Blah
